All swimmers on the North Side Swim team will be encouraged to participate in meets once they have been deemed ready by their coaches. Even if they are not sure and lack the confidence please encourage them to participate. Meets allow us an opportunity to evaluate improvement over time.

Competition is important to measure success. However, please keep in mind how success is defined on the North Side; we measure success based on individual results at both practice and competition, and comparing swimmers to themselves to see improvement over time. 

Please help your swimmer focus on their own performance and not the performance of others. There is no defense in swimming, which means the only person you have an impact on in the water is yourself. Please encourage your swimmer to focus on their time and not their place. Time is standardized, place is relative to who they are swimming against.
